DAY 14
535 Miles
Sunday, August 3, 2014
Yuma, AZ to Kettleman City, CA through El Centro, San Yasidro, San Diego, Oceanside and Los Angeles, CA
There isn't another place around for miles so the cars are lined up for gas at the service stations and lined up for food at the fast food places. We couldn't go another mile today - we had to stop. We don't care where we stay - we only know that we are headed home!
Refresher Course on the Rules of the Game
- The four [4] check points are: San Ysidro, California; Blaine, Washington, Madawaska, Maine; Key West, Florida.
- Participants may visit the four official checkpoints in any sequence and by any route. Every checkpoint must be visited once.
- Time will be measured according to the time stamped on the gas receipts.
- The participant must e-mail or mail a completed proof of visit form, pictures with the registrant's numbered towel, motorcycle and gasoline receipts from each corner for every checkpoint. The gasoline receipt must contain the date, time, gas station location and be computer generated.
A BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY MORNING IN YUMA, CALIFORNIA
NOT SO PRETTY FROM YUMA TO EL CENTRO
"DAD'S" youngest son got his first start as an auditor in a big company in El Centro. It is close to the border and kind of scary.
Do you wonder where your strawberries, cucumbers, lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, beans, and many other fruits and veges come from? You're right - Imperial Valley around El Centro and surrounding areas. It is absolulely gorgeous.

IF WE HADN'T TRAVELED ON A SUNDAY PERHAPS......
- People would have been nicer to us - It seems that the further west we travel the less friendly, less thumbs-up, less high-five's we get.
- The 97 degree temperature wouldn't have been so miserable and we could have gone further.
- "DAD" would have been able to recover from something bad that he ate yesterday.
- We wouldn't have had to stop for so many "bathroom" breaks.
REMINDER TO ALL BLOG-READERS
- This is a "Man Trip" not a "Girl Trip"
- We are traveling on Interstate-5 not Scenic 101 where we could view the rocky coast and pristine palm-covered beaches.
- We have seen......Sea World, Disneyland, Big Sur, The Golden Gate Bridge, and the Redwoods so we don't need to stop and see them on this trip!
- We are conquering miles!
- The closer we get to home the faster we want to get there.
- Day 14! Awesome!

GOOD NEWS FOR THE DAY
"DAD'S" GPS has recovered and is back-in-the-saddle again. The healed-up GPS led "DAD" and "SON" around busy Los Angeles. It sent them to Highway 73 but it turned out to be a toll road and toll booths are closed on Sunday. The only way you can be on a toll road is to have an EZ-pass or get on-line and pay the toll with a credit card. No worries! $7.00 (each cycle) toll has been paid and it was well-worth the expense. Hurray!
