San Juan Islands

This trip was planned for my wife and daughter-in-law.  Every motel, hotel, bed and breakfast was secured with them in mind.  We planned early arrivals in the afternoon so that we would have time to enjoy the towns we visited and allow for browsing and shopping adventures.  Follow the route for a great 16-day adventure:


  • Hamilton, Montana to Dayton, Washington

Highway 93 up to Missoula
Highway 12 through Lewiston to Dayton, Washington.
310 miles
Weinhard Hotel (see "Great places to stay" on blog home page)


  • Dayton, Washington to Tumwater

Highway 12 to Interstate 5 up to Tumwater
330 miles
Comfort Inn

More to come .......heading toward Port Townsend and the ferry to Anacortes Island.

    I am a stranger who stumbled across your blog. I am a 45-year-old female who just bought her first motorcycle and received her 650cc+ motorcycle endorsement. Your pictures and stories give me the itch to get out and take long trips. I find riding the bike is therapeutically liberating! I hope my sons will take up riding with my husband and I when they are old enough. I think it is a fabulous family activity!
